Quilt magazines
 

I have a huge bookcase with all my quilt magazines. They are not organized at all. I wish they were. I haven't looked at any of them for over two years. And I have lots of quilt books. Should I just throw all the magazines out? They go back quite a few years and I don't know if the library would take them all...too many to donate. I don't want to spend the time organizing the mags so they aren't of any use, like knowing which issue has a pattern I want. What should I do? I think the books I don't want I could take to the library.

I am kinda the same boat with magazines and some books
(although not that many book).

Before my hubs took over my "fabric room" aka 2nd bedroom
I had a 2 shelf bookcase and about 16 magazine file boxes and
had started sorting my mags as they came in.

I do know that ALL my regular Quilter's World magazines will be
going out of here (since I have EVERY issue in digital format going
back to 2003). Any other mags that I have a digital copy of will also
be gone.

Maybe offer them here on QB, under "for sale". Don't throw them out!!! I personally LOVE the old quilt magazines! In fact I just bought three from a thrift store today. Nothing like the old classics:) How much would you sell them for?

I went thru a stack of quilt magazines and took out the patterns I wanted to keep. I gave the rest of a quilting friend and she took out the patterns she wanted. Then she recycled the rest.

I think it would cost a ton to mail them. And I don't want to search for certain magazines. I have to take care of a sick person.

I would call the library and any local quilt guilds and ask if they want the magazines. If they will take them, you are all set. If not, you don't need to feel guilty about pitching them because you did try. If it were me, I do have a favorite magazine. I would keep a couple of those, just a few random issues to thumb thru, then discard the rest.

Or just donate them to a local thrift store?

If I lived nearby I would come take them to a quilt group. Our group loves old magazines and books!

A few years ago I went thru my magazines one at a time while watching tv and pulled out the quilts I was interested in and then re-cylced the rest of it. If there was nothing I wanted in the magazine that I wanted I gave it to the local thrift shop. They said a lot of people come in and get them. Nothing annoys me more than finding something in a used magazine only to find out part of it was torn out. So if you do dismantle a magazine for a pattern, please just put the rest of it in a recycle bin.

It looks like you are not living near a large city, but if you are going to one in the near future consider taking them to a thrift store or library.

You can send them media mail thru USPS, it's insanely cheap
