Maybe a light weight duck cloth?

**EDIT**

I just happened to remember that I bought a couple
dozen (in black & navy blue 1 dozen each) from ebay
a few years ago.

VERY reasonably price also, below is the link.

I make my daughters black half aprons from cotton duck cloth. If the shipping is reasonable, it certainly looks less expensive to buy a bunch.

I used twill. They turned out great!

Hobby Lobby has ready made aprons to use to decorate or just to use--not sure of colors though.

Dharmatrading.com has apron blanks made from a heavy weight cotton....and then the dye to make them the exact shade of yellow you want. Dyeing is very easy and not messy...done in ziplock bags. A yellow tie-dye apron might be just the thing.

This is one of the times when it really is much less expensive to buy ready made than to make. Especially if you have a uniform shop in town. (that is where I buy mine)

Aprons designed for commercial Kitchen use are a poly cotton blend and can be purchased in just about every colour for less than the cost of retail fabric. Some have pockets, others have wider bibs to cover busty gals.

I would use Trigger cloth.......it's usually about 60" wide
