Hobbs Batting
 

First time to use this Batting on my quilt . I did not pre-wash it so my question is
when the quilt is washed the first time, will it shrink up and be wrinkled? Reading on the bag
it says 5% and that it creates a antiqued look I take that as to mean wrinkled am I right?

I usually use Hobbs 100% cotton batting. There is a bit of shrinkage after the finished quilt is wash. BTW, I never pre-wash my batting. Here's a picture of a baby quilt I finished this summer and used the Hobbs batting. Hope this helps you.

I think you can expect shrinkage. The amount of shrinkage will probably depend on how you washed the quilt. Lots of agitation and hot water, as well as a hot dryer will likely give you more shrinkage. How the quilt looks will also depend on whether or not you pre-shrunk your top and backing fabrics.

Yes, you are right that when they say "antiqued", they mean "wrinkled."

The batting we sell most at the shop is Hobbs 80/20 (cotton/polyester) Heirloom Blend. That one doesn't shrink like the 100% cotton Hobbs.

Ok thanks great info. Yes it is the 80/20 I am using, some blocks have embroidery as it a college quilt for my son and I didn't want that part wrinkled *LOL* anyway thanks I know what to do now.

Even after blocking I sometimes find "wrinkles" I find that pressing quilt will get rid of these. Since fabrics and battings are cotton or cotton blend I use a lower heat setting. I also found that after asking permission while hanging quilt shows, an iron can help get rid of those fold mark.
