Mixing broadcloth with cotton fabric

Rummaging thru my stash I have found about 2 yards of broadcloth....not sure where it came from:rolleyes:......is it okay to mix broadcloth with regular cotton fabric if everything has been washed? What are the down sides to mixing the two types of fabric?

I have used broadcloth in some of my quilts with regular cotton and it handles well. The only problem is that you can't iron it as hot as cotton.

I have done it! But you do have to be careful with the iron.

Broadcloth is generally cotton and can take heat. The only issue I would think would be for hand quilters. Because it has more threads per inch and is more tightly woven, getting a hand needle through it repeatedly might tiring. Sewing machines handle it well.

Cotton fades faster then broadcloth. As others have mentioned you have to watch the iron temperature.

You only have to watch the iron temp if the broadcloth is a cotton/poly blend. Some are that and others are 100% cotton.

I use RK 100% cotton broadcloth with quilters' cotton without issue.

I've done it for years colorblocking and appliqueing shirts. They get more washing and drying at higher temps than a quilt.
They have done just fine.

I have used it when it was the right colour.

I'd use the broadcloth for a backing. I don't like to mix poly/ctn and 100% ctn for piecing. The iron temp. is certainly a major consideration.
