cutting out fabric for a project

I really do not like cutting out fabric for a project. Am I the only one? I would much rather get to it already...

I don't ever pre cut every piece for a quilt. Maybe because I am not that kind of organized person. I usually make scrappy quilts and make one block to try out the pattern and see if I like it or can make it an easier way or save fabric if I cut it another way, etc. Then I make lots of blocks and decide on sashing to join them together and maybe cornerstones, then borders. The finished quilt is usually a surprise that is quite different from what I thought it would be. Could be wonderful or something that I would make other choices if I were to do it over again. HA It is kind of an adventure to me, like putting a puzzle together and being surprised by the outcome. Of course, we are all different and some of you would never want to quilt this way. But, it is all fun to me.

I enjoy the cutting just as much as the quilting, actually

I love cutting. I will usually cut the entire quilt or leave the borders for later

I, too, hate cutting.
I do not pre cut every piece. I usually just pre cut the blocks that I will be chain piecing.
I buy a lot of jelly rolls, layer cakes, charm packs, etc. and use them often in my quilt making. Saves a lot of time and frustration!

try just cutting one block at a time

I don't mind the cutting since I am so much better at it. For me I just cut as I need to. It kills my back & hips to stand too long. I just consider cutting as part of the quilting process. Plus it's my first time really getting to play with the fabrics I have chosen!

I don't do any one quilt task too long. I cut one block at a time, sew the block checking that I like it and it is the size desired, press the block and then cut the next block out. I never cut all the pieces for a quilt because I might change the arrangement later.

Thanks for the suggestions! For me I like to have it all cut out because I hate stopping to cut more.

I cut as I go. Maybe a couple of blocks at a time. That being said, cutting is not my favorite part of quilting.
