I did this little mini yesterday and took some pics along the way for you to see how I did it. I didn't take any pics of the background process as all I did was strip pieced some 1-1/2" strips together for my foundation piece. I made two blocks in a graduating color fashion from dk to lightest. Here they are:

here they are all chopped in half and sewn tog in a horizontal/vertical fashion thruout

They looked so yummy, I just called it creamsicle but by the time I finished with my flowers on it, it quickly changed from creamsicle to dreamsicle as the wonderful orange/peach color vanished on me! So this is my Dreamsicle Mini.

Now let's make some flowers. Oh, what fun! And...the sky's the limit!

Let's fussy cut two pieces together; one for the main flower and one for the center.

here they are sewn together

add another piece and cut

Keep adding pieces to each previous piece sewn until you have a flower; usually around 4 or 5 pieces.

here's the last pc. added

and voila....cut to desired shape!

Looking good so far....I added rt and left borders but forgot to take a pic. Added a luxurious wonderful very lg. scale Haufman floral to the rt. side and a bold red and white stripe to the left side. Looks snazzy so far.

Here's a rough draft of what we've got now:

Had some tiny buds in there but removed them - just too much activity

Here it is almost done.....

Now let's check the contrast

Well, there you have it! Contrast looks great so far. To try this:

1) simply right click on the pic of your rough draft
2) click on "edit"
3) click on "image"
4) click on "invert colors"

and Ta Da......you can find out if you're in sync with contrast. Make sure it is well balanced between dks and lts.

Here are some tips:

1) create some depth with your flowers by adding dk pcs wherever you want

2) use your largest floral pc. as the focal point of your arrangement; then build your arrangement around that flower

3) light fabrics look best around the perimeter of your mini so keep this in mind for getting all those dk pcs to show up.

Here's a pic of the depth created with the flowers:

Now all that's left is to just do a tackdown and finish off with your embellishments! You can leave it raw-edge like I do, or do a needle-turn applique, or use fray check to keep it all looking intact and not applique at all.

Hope this covers everything! If you have any questions, I'll be glad to help in any way. Here's hoping you great success with your newly made mini!!
