Applique/lap quilt?
 

Ladies,
Has anyone machine appliquéd on a quilt that will be washed many times? If so, what type of stitch did you use to appliqué the shape?

I'm wanting to try this but don't know if the shape will be stitched down well enough not to fray at the edges.

My only appliqué experience is on the squares for the Fold'n Stitch wreath.

I appliqué baby / kids quilts all the time, they get laundered often. I use heat n bond lite for my fusible and generally a small blanket stitch. I'm not a fan of satin stitched appliqué.

I use a lite fusible and a narrow zigzag but not satin, some small places may get a little fuzzy but does not fray. If you use a close narrow zigzag you do not see every uneven spot like with satin stitching

Odd lady out here... I use heat'n bond lite and satin stitching on all of mine and love it. ( I use a stabilizer behind my satin stitching so it doesn't tunnel)

I now have to practice with the satin stitch and the zigzag stitch.

I did lots of applique on my granddaughters quilt. She is two now and the quilt gets washed regularly. I fused the applique to my fabric and used small blanket stitch around the edges. Everything is holding really well with no signs of fuzzy edges or lifting.

Ohhh Vicki1212 thanks for sharing! I know I can easily handle the blanket stitch. That gives me hope I'll be able to do this.

Blanket stitch for me. Satin stitch takes forever......
