Bobbin winders

My 10 year old DGD is going to be taking a sewing class. The bobbin winder on the Brother machine she is going to use is broken but the machine sews beautifully. Do any of you have experience with those small bobbin winders and are they worth the money? To fix the bobbin winder on the machine would be at least $90. I think I bought the machine from Costco years ago. Thank you for your time.

I've found the small bobbin winder, approx $25-$30, works fine. I have it and use it with a machine I have that has a broken bobbin winder. Have forgotten who makes it, Singer maybe, since I haven't used that machine in a while.

I just got one form my birthday, but haven't had time to try it, so I'll be watching this to see what others think.

I've used one, and found it worked well (Simplicity/Wrights/Sidewinder). My Mom takes hers to classes and group sewing, and finds it really handy. One day I'm going to buy one for myself, as I have a couple machines with bobbin winders that aren't great.

I have one and it works fine. I just googled it, and Amazon has it for $23. Way better price than $90 for repairing the broken one on the machine. It is called Simplicity Side Winder.

My granddaughter use to love to wind bobbins using my Sidewinder. I still have a shoe box full of wound bobbins. I think we bought all the bobbin sold at Walmart one summer. LOL

I took the top off (screws) and put a big piece of heavy scrap metal DH had laying around and that stopped it from tipping over. It is top heavy even with batteries in it. There is a tension adjustment you can set so be sure and read the instructions.

I have a side winder that works great. In fact my sister borrowed it & I don't think I'm going to get it back- she says it works great for her. ( $19.95)

They don't work with my green Husqvarna bobbins, so just make sure your machine bobbins are compatible with the one you buy.
