Using 2.5 inch blocks

Regarding using up scrap blocks...Wondering if anyone could post a picture of a quilt or a pattern name using 2.5 inch blocks where the blocks are arranged with some visual symmetry, instead of a random scrappy-type quilt? I was reading somewhere about using 10 blocks and creating one larger block from scraps as you go and, when you finally have enough larger blocks, put the quilt together. I kind of like this idea for using up scraps because I tend to work with one color group per quilt and can keep up with the scraps this way. But I can't find the site where I'd read about this, or get a pattern up now that I'm really thinking about what to do with the scraps. Thanks for any help!

there are a few on this board where the 2.5's have visual symmetry and not random scrappy:

I just got a book yesterday that I ordered from Amazon. It may be something that would interest you:

I have seen a quilt made from this book and she used all greens in it and it was gorgeous!

I am doing a scrappy Irish Chain right now, with my 2" scraps. And I just started a scrappy Double Wedding Ring quilt for 2.5" scraps.

One of the greatest uses for random scrappy squares that I have done is make placemats. Any width or length will do and I use that long strip of batting left over from quilts inside. I "birth" them so I don't even have binding on them. I have made at least 30 and they make a great gift in a pinch for a gift.

I love this heart, could be done in many colors with any size block you wanted to work with.

If you go to the 2016-2017 Birthday Swap thread and scroll through it, we post pics and links to quilts using the 2.5 charms we swap (also known as candy). Lots of pretty patterns in there if you have the patience to scroll.

I posted a tute on the board for a tote bag made with these candies also:

I've also been saving patterns for quilts using 2.5" squares on a Pinterest board. If you care to see them, they are here:

I have a load of these squares and always look for ways to use them.
