No-batting quilt?

Has anyone made a quilt without batting? I have two fabrics, both the same except for color and I was thinking of sewing them together without batting so they won't be so heavy. I live in the south and heavy fabrics (and clothes) don't get much use, so I was trying to limit weight.

Or an alternative to traditional batting?

That's called a summer quilt. No batting or maybe a layer of muslin or flannel in between.

I have made several with no batting. Sometimes flannel inside is plenty for a warm season quilt.

If you get anyone saying that it's not a quilt because it doesn't have three layers, just ignore them. They don't count. You do what you want and call it a popsicle of you want to.

I was at target yesterday with my kiddo and he loves all those super soft licensed kids blankets, I plan on making him a quilt and using one of those for the backing and skipping batting altogether. Don't see why I couldn't call it a quilt.

I recently made one for myself as we live in central Florida. I use it most of the time and it's the perfect weight for here!

I've used flannel in quilts and quilted clothing. It works great. It gives a bit of softness and quilts fine.

I am always warm, doesnt matter the what temperature it is.... i am warm. I have made a couple of lap quilts for myself without batting and they are perfect quilts for me..... I have other lap quilts with batting for those who need or want the added warmth.

I've also done with polar fleece on the back only, the kids love the softness of them
