Paying Guild Members Who Teach

Does your quilt guild pay a member when they teach a class for the guild? And does it matter if the member is an officer of the guild?

I believe my guild gives the teacher a gift card to Joanns. It isn't huge. More a thank you, we appreciate the good work. And no, it does not matter if it is a member or officer

We give a gift basket of assorted items. Nothing related to quilting though. Every quilter has enough of enough. LOL

I think teaching a class for fellow guild members is a way of contributing to the guild. I wouldn't expect any payment to be given, unless perhaps if the person giving the class is a professional who makes her living that way. I would expect that the guild would offer to pay for any supplies that the teacher provides for the class.

Yes, one of our guild members who regularly teaches ran a couple of classes at our quilt show. She attracted full classes which made our show a bigger success. She charged $250.

Our guild does pay a small amount for a member to teach a class at our meetings. If it is a day class at another location, they get paid the same as an out of town person.

Yes, our guild pays with a gift certificate to the LQS for members who present evening programs as well as those who teach workshops.

Our Guild doesn't pay when teaching at a Guild meeting. It's considered an honor to teach. But we do have "At Home in the Guild" classed that are small, less than 10 people. Each guild member pays $10 to attend and the teacher receives a voucher for 2 free At home in the Guild classes.

I have taught classes at my guild and no gift or payment was given.

Do you believe it is unethical for a guild officer to receive payment of $250 to $350 to run a class of 8 to 10 guild members?
