Help please with quilt sandwich

Hello, I just finished pin basting my first quilt. Once I was done, I noticed that along a portion of my border, there is only about 1" of overlap for my batting in that one section. I am really nervous about leaving such a small overage, especially since I've never quilted before. I think you are supposed to have at least 2-4" of extra from your quilt top. I will be quilting this on my sewing machine and will be doing straight line quilting. Should I try to sew some additional batting to this section of the quilt sandwich before I start to quilt? Do I just sew the extra piece of batting with a zig zag stitch, or should I just leave the extra 1" of batting and hope that it doesn't pull too much? Again its on one of the borders and is approximately 18" long where I would need to add a piece. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If it makes you nervous, then just zig zag an extra strip of batting under that section of border.

I agree with Tartan. It will make you more comfortable. You will probably find you didn't need it but why make yourself crazy worrying about it. Zigzag it on and relax.

Thanks Tartan and Tesspug for your replies. I think I will add a piece on to be safe. I'm not much of a gambler and don't want to risk having a problem. Thanks again :)

Good advice, this is what I do. I have made lots of quilts but, stuff happens.
