French Braid Baby Quilt Repair
4 Attachment(s)
I made the original quilt for my GGD in 2013. A few weeks ago, her mother asked me if I could fix some open seams and repair a hole that Adaline had cut into it with a scissors. Also, at some point, my DD told me that Adaline had drawn on this quilt with markers.
When I received the quilt to repair it, it showed signs of aggressive laundering (to remove marks), the fleece backing had pilled terribly and the fleece was no longer soft, and the hole was right between the quilt and the first border. With encouragement from some great Board members, I decided to put a Minky backing over the pilled fleece backing; I restitched the French Braid seams with a wavy stitch; and I placed an applique heart over the hole and then placed some extra hearts around the quilt. I am quite pleased with the finished quilt. It's a bit heavy but GGD is now 4 and very capable of handling the extra weight. Lesson Learned: I will not use regular, non-pill fleece on any more of my quilts!
