Quilted Fabric

I was given some white pre-quilted fabric. It has a thin batt-like piece on one side and the quilted fabric on the other. Can I use this as a batting & batting for a quilt? It is a baby quilt and I would do some straight-line quilting to hold the three layers together. Has anyone here used it for this? What are the pros and cons. I do no plan to prewash it.

my only concern is if the underlying quilting lines will show 'dents' on the quilt surface

I have used pre quilted fabric on the back of small projects. For a baby quilt, I might quilt from the back in straight lines through the intersections already on the pre quilted fabric. If you did that it would quilt the front in straight lines but also go with the grid pattern already there on the back.

I re-quilted several pre-quilted panels and put borders on them. Then I removed the original quilting. Some had already came loose. I would machine quilt from the back following the quilted lines. I was still hand quilting at that time ( about 23 years ago).

I have used it as background and appliqued over it

I always keep it on hand, and use it as background for seasonal appliquéd wall or door hangings or quick little happy pillows. It used to be "finished" on both side, but now I notice that it is only finished on one side. Don't know when that happened but sure don't like it.
