Do I need a new motor??
A couple months ago I picked up a New Home 532 that looked really clean and ran smooth. Oiled it up and started using it almost daily. If I had any complaint about this machine it would have been that it's a bit slow. I worked it hard this weekend and today it seemed like it was running even slower, then this afternoon I could smell something 'hot'...it's the motor.
I don't know anything about electric motors. Can it be repaired or does it need to be replaced? If it needs to be replaced can I order one online and put it in myself? Is it hard to do?? TIA |
Servicing a motor is only intimidating the first time you do it. After that it's a piece of cake. It's probably getting hot because it hasn't been serviced in forever.

Electric motors have always been very mysterious to me...I thought they either ran or they didn't and then you replaced them. Never knew they needed cleaning/servicing. I'm willing to give it a try...probably next weekend. Then I can get a new cord/plug for it too.
Um, controller?? Deb |

Right but I don't know what to clean. I'd like to get good at this as I see more vintage machines in my future.:o

Thank you so much Cari. I'll give it a shot this weekend and report back here when I'm done.

I would go to sew-classic (no affiliation, but I've had excellent service from them in the past). I just checked, and it looks like they have a couple options. http://www.shop.sew-classic.com/Moto...-Parts_c21.htm
