Roll-call... spanking
 

Not looking to start a debate over whether spanking is right or wrong, or whether it works or not, but more so, just to see who all used it in their homes when raising their children.

I'll start the conversation off by saying, my kids got it when they needed it.

As kids, we got spanked (disciplined) when needed and so did our daughter.

My kids were spanked when they needed it. Grandkids were not.

No, I did not use corporal punishment, my ex partner smacked my children, and I hated him for it. My daughter and her husband do not use smacking/spanking either. Their children are delightful, and there are other methods of discipline when the need arises.

most everyone I knew grew up with spankings when they were so young that reasoning did not help

I was spanked (but rarely) and I spanked my oldest son only three times (ran out in the street, ran away from my in the hospital and threw a horrible tantrum in the grocery store). We were allowed to be spanked at school but never was.

Yep, at home and in elementary school even!! For the first 3 years I had the same teacher! "Little Kitsie talks too much" *sigh*

When I was about 6 or 7, I remember my granny keeping me while my mom worked. One day I said something (don't remember what, but), she said "young lady- you are going to get your legs blistered with a peachtree limb for sassing me!" She went to the tree, I ran around the house with her right behind me. We must have gone around the house at least twice when she got out of breath and stopped. She leaned against the house and roared with laughter while I dashed across the road and into the corn field...squatting so she couldn't see me. After a while I came out of 'hiding' and nothing was ever said about the incident. I will carry this memory with me forever--she is long gone now. I loved my granny so much!

my son never got a spanking. he was a good kid. when he did something he wasn't supposed to do, i'd let him pick his punishment or i'd make him come home and lay on his bed, or watch the news and tell me what it was all about. once, I just got him a mew bike. I told him not to go past the driveway. so of course he did. I told him to pick his punishment. wow, did he go overboard. He said a week without his new bike. I worked hard to get it for him, and wanted him to use it. so I said just that day. I made him tell me why I wouldn't let him past the driveway, so I let him out. he told all the kids, not to go past the driveway, or i'd punish them. I never spanked him, ever. I was spanked with a belt, really hard by my stepfather. I hated that man.
