Any information about the Singer Machine 277 U?
My family was handed down this machine and it has been here for a few years now. We have only used it for at least 5 times. Now that I want to use it again, I would like to know more and find out if there is something interesting about the machine but I cannot find any information about this in the internet. Anyone?

I checked the sewing machine collectible society website (ISMACS) and there is no information there. However, the model number is listed. I would suggest that you take a photo and post it. Someone may be able to discern some information from looking at it.

You might also contact the Singer Co thru their website. They have a lot of manuals on the website to download, but it doesn't appear that yours is there. They might be able to help you.
Edit: I just did some quick searches. Your machine looks very similar to a 237. There is manual for a 237 on the Singer Co website. It's a free download. That may help you. |
You may not find much on the web about it. There doesn't seem to be much info on the Japanese built Singer domestics, there's much more info on the industrials.

Oh, I see. Thank you very much for the replies. I will search and read that manual.

There is a section in Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville on vintage sewing machines. I spent some time in there this a.m. until my poor brain tried to explode. There is so much info there.

It looks a lot like a Singer 237.

I have to wonder if this machine was produced by The Pine Sewing Machine Co. of Japan... Singer was in a partnership with them in the 1960's. I have Pine-built SINGER Model 223 sewing machine that dates to 1965, but it does not carry the 'U' suffix on its model number.
