Fast Notion Organizer
 

This is very inexpensive to make. I've not published directions before, so if it is not clear, let me know.

These directions are not detailed, but you will get the idea.

SUPPLIES

1. 2/3 yd HEAVY DUTY two sided interfacing.
2. 2.5 yds ribbon
3. 1 yds fabric
4. 6 zipper pouches (These are the pouches made to put in 3-ring notebooks. They are made of canvas, with a clear front. There are three grommets on one side to it can be added to a notebook. I found mine at WalMart for 50 cents (get ready for school sale.)

CUTTING

1. Cut 5 pieces of ribbon to 18".
2. Measure the size of the pouch. Add 1 inch to width. Using these measurements cut four pieces of interfacing.
3. Measure the size of the pouch. Add 1.5" to width and 1/2" to length. Cut four pieces of cloth.
4. Centering interfacing, iron interfacing to cloth pieces using interfacing instructions. This will be the cover.
5. Using length measurement (including 1/2") and 3.5" as width, cut two pieces of fabric.
6. Using length measurement (without 1/2") and 3" as width, cut two pieces to interfacing.
7. Centering interfacing, iron to cloth pieces using interfacing instructions. This will be the spine.

NOTE: Two pieces of ribbon will hold the organizer closed and three pieces of ribbon will hold the pouches in place.

OUTSIDE COVER

1. Line up the long side of ONE cover piece with the long side of ONE of the spine piece.
2. With right sides together, stitch 1/4" seam.
3. Fold two pieces of ribbon in half.
4. Divide the long side measurement by 3. Match the fold of the ribbon to the OUTSIDE long edge of the cover at the 1/3 and 2/3 measurement.
5. Stitch the ribbon in place with 1/4" seam.
6. With right sides together, stitch the ribbon edge on the long side of the cover to the long side of the spine. Use 1/4" seam. Be sure you don't catch the loose ends of the ribbon in your stiching.

INSIDE COVER

1. Center the long edge of the pouch on the long edge of a cover piece. Mark where each grommet is placed.
2. Fold 3 pieces of ribbon in half.
3. Pin fold of ribbon to right side of fabric where the grommet marks are. Line up edge of ribbon with edge of cover piece.
4. Stitch ribbons in place with 1/4" seam.
5. Line up long side of cover piece (with ribbons) with the long side of the spine piece.
6. With right sides together, join pieces with 1/4" seam.
7. With right sides together, join the remaining cover piece to the other edge of the spine with 1/4" seam.

ASSEMBLY

1. Lay front cover and back cover right sides together.
2. Tuck all ribbons between fabric so they are not caught in stitching during assembly. Pin ribbons in place.
3. Using 1/4" seam stitch around covers leaving 4 inches open.
4. Turn cover right side out.
5. Hand sew cover shut.
6. Top stitch around edge. (be careful not to stitch loose ends of ribbons.)
7. Top stitch on either side of spine. (Be careful not to stitch loose ends of ribbons.)
8. If you are an over achiever, you can quilt the top and bind the edges
9. Open cover with three ribbons on top.
10. Tie in pouches using three ribbons.
11. Close "book" and tie closed with ribbons.

Stuff with notions you use all the time.
Take it to your next quilt meeting.
