Pinwheel Square Block
1 Attachment(s)
Hope someone can help! I'm trying to make a pinwheel/square block without cutting lots of little pieces. I've determined that if I can make 4 blocks like shown below, I can then sew them together. So is there a quick way to make this sub-block?

You might check QuiltersCache.com. They have many quilt blocks with directions where you may find a block like this. It's a free site.

Jenny Doan has tutorials on Youtube- several pinwheel quilts.

What you're showing is a simplified version of a quarter square triangle (QST). Follow the normal directions for making a QST, but halfway through, where you would be placing two HST's together, replace one of them with a plain piece of fabric. You'll wind up with two of the blocks that you want. (At least I think that's what you get. It's been a while since I did it.)

this tool would make it easy and accurate https://nancysquiltdesigns.com/whirl...triangle-tool/
this lady invented it and spoke at our guild meeting last night. |

Ok now that I read it again I see that's what Dunster was saying. |
Put two blocks right sides together, draw a center line, corner to corner sew 1/4" on each side of the line. Draw another line corner, like above, again sew 1/4" each side of center line. Cut on corner to corner line, press open ans right sides together sew center line, press open.

This is also called a "Boston Block" in some patterns. There are quite a few good tutorials on how to do it easily.
