Lap Quilt for Blind GGD

Just getting started making blocks for this quilt. I plan to use a zipper, buttons, pockets, yoyos, etc. but the most interesting suggestion I received was from my GD who asked that I make a Braille "J" block. I would never thought of this clock. Will do the circles and then stuff. The backing will be minkey.

Her bed-sized quilt will be the French Roses pattern. She will be able to feel the texture of the flowers and I was so excited to find this block as I had been searching for something appropriate for this precious child.

Does she read braille?

Maybe you could do her name in it and put it somewhere on the quilt?

I have yellow chenille and white chenille if you'd like enough for a square. Very tactile.

How sweet for you all. It will be a treasure that your GGD will hold in her heart for the rest of her life.

One of my neighbors is visually impaired. Her daughter made a label on her quilt throughout the quilt is also a prayer. All done in French knots for Braille lettering.

Great idea to do a note in braille!!

Suz ... being that the quilt is from GGM, maybe include an "I love you" message?
Lots of other uplifting message possibilities to include too.

Or what about having other family members and friends sign blocks with notes, and have someone translate them to braille ..... with more embroidery for GGrandma to do?

This could be so special for your GGM to have something is all hers!

Can't wait to see pictures! Good for you for using your skills for such a project. I love all your ideas.

GGD does not read Braille, but believe she knows some letters. Think I will include the "I love you" with the French knots or maybe in tiny buttons. Thanks for the idea. This beautiful child is presently a foster child and in the process of being adopted w/a lot of catching up to do. She's 9 yo. My GD is a special ed teacher and has done marvelously working with her, ie., piano lessons as she loves music and dance lessons (other students use walkers, wheelchairs, etc.). As a family, we are so blessed to have her join us. I haven't learned to post pictures but will, I promise.
