Old singer/Rebecca?

My daughter has an old singer w/ cabinet, but I think it also can be taken out and used as portable? Anyway, she has advertised it for sale and received an inquiry, and the person called it a "Rebecca". Not being an enthusiast of vintage machines, don't know what that means. Maybe someone here can give some info on what that might mean. Thanks....

I've never heard a Singer called anything remotely like that. There was a Singer Merritt. Several manufacturers in the first 100 years or so of sewing machines badged machines with many names on them but to my knowledge Singer wasn't one of them. I think the Italian Necchis were the most famous for giving their machines girls names but there was never a Rebecca. I'm stumped.

Sometimes people name their machines. Perhaps the potential buyer had owned the same kind of Singer previously and called it Rebecca and somehow didn't get that across well.

Did she come look at the machine? This would give you an opportunity to ask her about the name.

My daughter posted it ( info and picture)on some sort of local garage sale site and this was one of the responses. The person left a phone number and asked for a call back so she (presume) could ask some further questions. Will let you know after telecon....
