here comes sashiko

I'm headed out to by myself a sashiko. I'll post a picture of the machine. It is a present from me to me. How
Christmasey is that!

The gifts you buy yourself are the best!

I've bought myself a few things this year, that I know DH will never think of. Nothing as exciting as a Sashiko, though!

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. :)

Yea! looking forward to hearing about your progress learning to use it. Maybe that will motivate me to learn how to use mine. I bought it early summer, but summers are super busy for me so it's sat around and not been used.

I love my sashiko machine. Check your PM for some tips I wrote for another buyer, that I copied for you to get you started. Jane

You will love it. My only tip to you is to keep a light touch with your hands as you guide it. When I laid my hands down on it the way I do piecing, I caused drag which broke the thread. Let the machine do it's thing. Just lightly guide it.

Just went to eBay to check it out....wow, the needles for this machine seem very expensive...$50-60!

Good for you. Sometimes we need to treat ourselves too.

I saw that before I bought my Sashiko, and asked my dealer about it before I bought mine. That's just someone on ebay's rip-off prices. I think a package of two needles at my dealer was $14 ($7 a piece). Still expensive, but do-able. This needle is not like any other needle out there. It is very specialized for what the sashiko machine does, with an opening in the back so that it functions like a hook to grab the loop of thread. Worth it.

My friend has one. she 'quilted' my runner with it. I liked the look of it.
She was selling it, but haven't heard what she's doing with it now.

Would it be too much trouble to simply list those here? I think many of us would be interested in your advice. Thank you.
