What exactly is this Flying Geese Method
I want to make the River Trees Quilt and I see people referring to the Fast 45 Flying Geese method. What exactly is that? I tried a "Google" search and no one ever said that their method was the "Fast 45". What is it?
Thanks in advance. |
I've never heard of fast 45. But the fast flying geese method is fast and accurate. If you don't know this one google again or a lot of the magazines show how to do it in their basics section.

Fellow member Jo M posted about her beautiful River Trees quilt in 2013 at this link:
https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...s-t230754.html She also used the 'fast 45' method details of which she says can be found with the free pattern and she provides a link. The link did not work for me so I'm guessing it is no longer valid. In that case, what about contacting Jo M direct and asking her? https://www.quiltingboard.com/members/jo-m-u16594.html |
I found this page from AQS with a link to her method, but it stated it was a quick 4 FG , not 45. One has to be a paid subscriber to their site to access the page so I will not be bothering. Here's the link if anyone is a subscriber and wants to look. Just read a bit to find it
http://www.aqsblog.com/river-tree-the-quilt p.s. perhaps 4.5" was meant. |
There is a youtube video by Pam Bono showing how she makes FG in a column. Look up
"A Quilter's Choice" Amazing NEW Technique for Flying Geese" I couldnt figure out how to copy the link. It is a bit repetetive but an interesting way of doing these units. |
When it comes to flying geese, I love my flying geese ruler. I bought it from Debbie McInnis Thompson, the designer of the BOW Autumn Evenings and Rest and Refreshing. Its marked in black and red and I had trouble seeing the red on some red fabric, but after a flock of geese, I get it. I'll try to post some pics.
Marcia P.S. to nannykins8 I sooooo miss Pam Bono. |
http://www.auntiesatticquiltshop.com/TQL-pattern-43.pdf link worked for me. Another pattern for my bucket list!!!

Eleanor burns of quilt in a day has a way of doing 4 fg at a time...I'm sure their are others who do it the sane way...check out you tube

I found the River Trees pattern for flying geese on the AQS web site. It uses paper piecing to construct the 4 connected flying geese units. Nothing magic there...

If it makes 4 at a time, look up the "No Waste" method. Easy and accurate.
