Trying to determine model of Singer machine
 

I was gifted with a beautiful Singer machine serial #JC740506 with woooden base, no top. Other than missing the bobbin case everything else is complete. How would I figure out the model so I can order a bobbin case? Thanks for any help you can offer.

This can help with the years of manufacture, but not the Model ID

One of my machines has a JC number. I think it's my 15-91. However, if you will post a photo of it, we can usually identify the model. This site limits the size of your photo, so you will probably have to reduce the size. You can do that will most any photo program. When it's too big, it doesn't actually say, "it's too big". It says something like, "You can't upload at this time".

Could not figure out how to connect this pic with an earlier post, so am starting anew. Sorry, but this old gal is not going to learn many new tricks on a computer today:-)

The tension adjustment on the front screams model 15 Not a potted motor so not a 15-91 Thanks.

Does that badge on the pillar, just below the stitch length lever, have a blue outter band around the gold? Does it say Centennial anywhere on it? Nice looking machine. My first thought after turning the photo right side up was 15-91, but someone else has already vetoed that. As for a bobbin case, are you sure it needs one, or does the bobbin nest into it's place just under the slide plate, like a class 66?

Lena, it's a model 15, not a potted motor, but electric, so that would make it a 15-90.

A model 15 has the tension on the chrome face (end) of the machine. The model 15 came in several sub-models. One is with a belt driven motor, the 15-90, on with a potted motor (direct drive - no belt), the 15-91 and as a treadle, which was the 15-88. Singer made the model 15 machines for many, many years, so there are earlier and later models of it as well.

It doesn't have a drop in bobbin. You thread the bobbin into the case which is inserted under the needle and under the slide plate. The bobbin case has a little lever on the side of it that allows you to remove it. They are not expensive to replace if yours is lost. I'd get one from sew-classic.net if I needed one.

Everything to do with the 15-90 and a 15-91 are the same,except the motors, so you can follow most 15-91 instructions . Here's a youtube video on threading that shows the bobbin and threading the machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgzXcwz7w18
