Pfaff 360
I saw a pfaff 360 at a estate sale today--portable in case. Anyone have an opinion on this machine? Thanks.

I think the 360 has the extra strong motor, and it's of a solid build. A part of the cam mechanism on top might need to be taken off, this model is prone to sticky grease or oil and it's easier to get at this way. On the pluss side, there's good tutorials on this to be found, well within a DIY self job, and it pays off. A good solid model, most info on it indicatis it's metal geared, but I never really quite believe it until I've checked it my self. There are two or three variations on the 360, some have a numbered dial and lever on top, it has built in stitch patterns.

2000 stitches per minute is a lot for a domestic machine, and it's suppose to be very smooth too. The extention table is cleverly built in. This is one of the best. I'm almost talking my self into getting one of these! The only thing I hold against the is the gray color, if you don't have too much grey in your surroundings it might be just the thing ;- )

Margaret I bought one that I thought was hopelessly frozen but got it freed up with the usual oiling, wiggling, and hair dryer application (lather, rinse, and repeat!) Just need to get the cam assembly re-installed and give it the all over oiling before I put it on the sewing table. This model is among the royalty of the vintage sewing machine world so I wouldn't hesitate to get it if it was in reasonably good condition.

This one followed me home yesterday .95 amp motor. Alas, no power cords/controller. Back burner. I can start the oiling process, not all the controls move yet. Looks nice and will turn through so that's a plus.

Took the cover plate off of the motor to better read the serial #. As I was replacing it I dropped a screw inside. That can't be good. Held it needle up and gave it some shakes. Out came the screws and three straight pins. Improvement already.

I hope you find pedal and plugs for it. Plugs can be a bit of a challenge some times. Is this the version with 2200 spm? Flooring the pedal should give some indication. It doesn't look like your takes cams, but it has all basic features of this series. It looks nice and should clean up even better ;- )

Once I get power I can listen for it to spin up. In the meantime, I thought this clutch wheel was pretty neat.

Looks almost hand made. I have noticed Pfaff metal parts can have finishes like that. Some earlier cast iron models had a sort of beeswax pattern, others a more irregular pattern. It's not only Pfaff, but several of the other German brands. My Singers are usually simple shiny polished chrome.

I have found a Vintage Pfaff 360 locally, that a gal is offered.
What is a good price- fair of what these are worth? It is in the original cabinet- and has the electric pedals and all. Much thanks! VM |
