Hello group
I'm David,
How many fifty-something men are members here? I come by way of my fastination with antique Singer sewing machines. This is my latest iteration of fancy for mechanical things, which I've had since I was a kid. In honor of my late mother and her abilities as a seamstress I have a mission to make a quilt to use as a replacement for the one she gave me at age 16. It is a yarn tied patchwork with complicated wheels with spokes. I finally appreciate just how much work and skill went into it. With my mechanical skills I'm determined to make a quilt frame and use an antique Singer 66 to quilt it. No $10,000 machine for me! I'm here to gather information and pilfer ideas. Thanks in advance! |
Howdy from Texas, David & welcome to the boards. I'm so glad that you are interested in quilting & know & appreciate all the intricate work and detail that goes into making a quilt. Sounds like you are going to machine piece your quilt & then hand quilt it. How awesome is that!!! There are TONS of tutorials (you tubes) on just about anything you might want to know & learn about quilting. This board has phenomenal quilters with skills from beginners to professional/advanced with so much knowledge. Just ask as many questions you can & someone will come along with answers for you. Have fun with your new found hobby!

Welcome from Oklahoma. Pilfer away. You will find more ideas here than you could complete in several lifetimes. All your questions will be answered. I'd love to see the quilt your mother made for you.

I'll get a pic but it'll be awhile before I get back to where it's at. Thx everyone!

Welcome David. Yes, we have some male members, tho I can't say what their ages are. They are all good quilters and some are just into the vintage machines, mostly. Be sure you check out our vintage machine section.
Also check out what (Don) Isewman makes. It will inspire you. |
Welcome from western NY and happy quilting :)

Welcome, David,
I'm in the 60+ group, and am the youngest in the group of women at my church who make yarn-tied quilts for both Lutheran World Relief and local shelters. |
Welcome from NY David!
