Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festivals

Has anyone attended these festivals. They have them in Arizona, California,Idaho and elsewhere. There is going to be one in Portland in April. They seem to be different than the expos. I am wondering if they are worth attending.

Are you talking about these: www.quiltcraftsew.com ? I haven't. But honestly, the last couple of large shows I went to (Quilt Canada and the Philadelphia Quilt Extravaganza (by Mancuso) were extremely disappointing. We have an amazing show in Rochester every other year, the Genesee Valley Quilt Show. Unfortunately, this is an "off year," it will not be held again until June of 2019. There are also several smaller shows that I have seen larger displays of quilts at.

I always try to go to the ones that Show in our area, and buy something from a new vendor. Our local LQS worked hard at packing, moving fabric, stuffing a pull trailer etc. until she said it was not worth it. If we dont support them they will not come, and our craft/hobby slowly dies.....But if prices becomes so outrageous, then, I guess we can say we had a good run, what's next?

Are you talking about Quilt! Knit! Stitch! ?

I went to the one in Portland last year (or was it the year before?) and it was really good! There were vendors and exhibits for sewing, knitting, crocheting, and needlework, but the majority of the exhibits and vendors were quilting-related. I've been to Houston 4 times and Paducah once, and this show doesn't compete with those, but it was still a very good show and I was not sorry I went, not by a long shot.

I wasn’t able to go to the Puyallup Sew Expo which is ends today, but thought this might be a little bit like it.

In my experience these shows are “a shopping” experience. You can see new products, demonstrations, classes, etc. They do have quilts displayed, but there is not a “quilt show” where quilts are entered, judged and awarded ribbons. It is fun to go to these Quilt, Craft and Sewing Festivals to shop and/or be educated.

I rarely base my decision to go to any craft/needlework show on a few bad reviews. I was walking into a craft show and a few ladies came out and said don't waste your money, it's awful. I went in anyway as I was already there. I though it was great. I bought several crafts that would be perfect for workshops for my guild that the vendors was happy to come teach. As program chair it was a major find that gave the guild lots of contacts we would never have had that branched out to community projects. We gained a lot of new members.
