flannel question
I really like flannel on the back of a quilt... but I have trouble finding flannel that is the cozy soft flannel. Many time while the fabric is flannel its not really anything soft
What do I need to look for or ask for in flannel to get the softest coziest? any ideas? certain brands better? |
Any flannel I have bought has been fuzzy and soft.

I have used Moda, Wilmington Prints and Timeless Treasures (all bought on sale). The Moda was the thickest and heaviest, but the others were also nice fabrics. I won't buy them at Joanns, too much shrinkage and pilling.

I can't answer your question, but I had to say: I don't pre-wash any fabric except flannels. You just can't be sure how much it will shrink and sometimes it is a lot!

Woolies flannels by Maywood Studios are excellent!

I found some Cuddle Duds flannel sheets on clearance at Kohls and am gonna try them as backing. I washed and dried one set and it came out of the wash, very soft, fluffy and cuddly. I think if you can find some "higher end" flannel sheets, they might hold up better and not do all that pilling and wearing. Not to mention they come in bed sizes so may not have to piece the back.
Just an idea for you. |
Moda and Maywood make amazing flannels. They have all the soft and cozy you could want in a flannel. Marcus Brothers is also nice.

I love Moda flannel. Thick, soft, yummy!

I got a wonderful organic cotton flannel on Fabric.com a couple of years ago. I made my DIL a rag quilt with it and she loves it. But it wasn't cheap, however, she's worth it. :)

thanks for your input I will shop until I can find one that I love :)
