Singer 128

I picked up a Singer 128 at a local antique shop. It's gorgeous and I'm in love! Other than rewiring it, I also need to replace the belt and the bobbin winder rubber piece. What is the best place to get the belt and bobbing winder piece?

Thanks!

Hard to tell, I know Sew Classic and Cyndi Peters (Stitches in Time on facebook) have first hand experience and know what they sell. Much the same for some ebay sellers, the trick is to identify the correct type. I think you have the small tyre the same as 99, 66 and 201. The motor belt can be a bit tricky, measure the outer circumference on the one you have and that's what you get when you order. Don't trust model listings on belts, there's too many variants, like large spoked or small non-spoked hand wheel. There's not much room for adjustment, just a bit.

Congrats on the new machine! It looks like a beauty. I've used Sew Classic for parts and accessories for my vintage machines and they are very good.

I also have been happy with Sew Classic.

Another vote for Sew Classic. Cindy Peters is very good too, she doesn't have a website though. She has a facebook page, or you can email her at [email protected].

Sew-Classic is my go-to site for vintage parts and accessories.

Although my go to is Cindy, Sew classic has a section of the website on how to measure for a belt. Whatever you do, do not use a stretch rubber belt. I only use them in a pinch to test machines , and until I can get the correct v belt.

For the bobbin winder tire, I used used sew classic for my singer 28, because that was one of the models listed. I could not get that small tire around my bigger bobbin wheel! So I emailed for suggestions. As others have said, customer service is great! She sent me links to old parts catalogs that helped me see that I had a larger variant on the bobbin winder. Then she suggested heat to stretch the tire. I soaked the tire in a glass of almost boiling water for a couple minutes and it stretched right over the wheel! It works perfectly, so if you encounter the same issue with the standard bobbin tire, try heat.

I cut the belt in half and it measured 13 3/4, so I'm assuming that is what I need to be aiming for. The belt on it was strange, almost like some type of fabric/woven on the outside, and rubber on the inside.

I hope you have the shuttle and bobbins. Mine have traveled with me to demos.
