?thread dogs on singer stylist-534

I have an old machine that has the feed dogs "down" How do I get them up? I have a manual, but it doesn't seem to explain.

I looked at https://www.singer.com/sites/default...4bf37d6c_0.pdf and on page 62 of the pdf or 60 of that manual it says that there is a special "feed dog cover needle plate" I know I have some that use the special plate rather than actually lowering the feed dogs. Some of the machines from that era would have levers or buttons that could lower and raise the feed dogs. For that particular model, they just had you switch out the needle plate.

On page 6 of that pdf it shows the different plates that came with the 534. I didn't look real close at that manual to see how to switch them. If I remember correctly -
raise presser foot
raise needle
open the front slide plate
lift up on the right side of the needle plate
slide the plate to the right

There may some trick to raising the left side to replace it with the correct plate as that is what goes on first.

Hope this helps.

Hopefully the darning plate is in place on your machine, that will solve it. If not take the throat plate off clean and inspect parts. You might need to take the bottom cover off too. I'm not quite sure how it works on the 534, but it's often the bottom of freearm that comes off on these, sometimes the casing slides off to the side, on my Berninas the top comes off. There are oil points and things that need attention on these.
