I have an old machine that has the feed dogs "down" How do I get them up? I have a manual, but it doesn't seem to explain.

On page 6 of that pdf it shows the different plates that came with the 534. I didn't look real close at that manual to see how to switch them. If I remember correctly - raise presser foot raise needle open the front slide plate lift up on the right side of the needle plate slide the plate to the right There may some trick to raising the left side to replace it with the correct plate as that is what goes on first. Hope this helps. Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do. |
Hopefully the darning plate is in place on your machine, that will solve it. If not take the throat plate off clean and inspect parts. You might need to take the bottom cover off too. I'm not quite sure how it works on the 534, but it's often the bottom of freearm that comes off on these, sometimes the casing slides off to the side, on my Berninas the top comes off. There are oil points and things that need attention on these.
