Enlarging a quilt pattern
 

When my son was little, my mom bought a quilt from a woman where she worked. It was a red fabric in the shape of a donkey. Red and muslin to be exact. I've not been able to find that pattern. I did find a doll quilt pattern that had a donkey on it. The reason I want to make one is because my son passed away and I would like to make my other 2 children a donkey quilt in memory of their brother.

This is the pattern I found, however it was only one donkey and it was facing the opposite direction.
The quilt was for a full size bed and my son used it until there was nothing left of it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am also willing to pay someone to creat the pattern for me. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

That block was published as Giddap, the Democratic donkey by the Kansas City star in 1932, along with Ararat, the Republican elephant. Here is a blog that includes the grid for both. You would just flip it to have the donkey facing left.

what size do you want the quilt to finish?

If you mean one donkey covered a full size bed, you would need to cut the squares @ 5 1/2", larger for the HSTs, and all pieces including HSTs would finish 5". The chart shows squares 13 x 15 wide. That would make the quilt 65" x 75"wide so you may need to add more to the top and bottom. If you need a smaller quilt you can use smaller squares, e.g. 2" finished squares will give you a 26 x 30" quilt.

In Columbia, Tennessee, they have Mule Day every year. This may be a hunch, but check with the Chamber of Commerce for Columbia, TN or Maury County TN Chamber of Commerce and see if they can give you a resource for someone who has made quilts relating to Mule Day. I do hope you can succeed in your venture.

Thank you Deb. My greatest quilting accomplishment was that I had his basketball jerseys from when he was a child along with some t-shirts and hair ties he bought for his daughter. With the help of my friend, we put it together so now my granddaughter is literally wrapped in her dad's warmth. I keep the quilt here at my house for obvious reasons. She is 16 years old now but uses it everytime she comes to stay with me when visiting from out of town.
