The loss of the perfect coffee cup

Apparently as I've grown older I've also grown pickier about coffee cups. In the last couple of years my "good" mugs have had bad things happen to them. I want a large cup but not huge. Not too thick, not too thin. Microwaveable. Dishwasher safe. Particular handle shapes and sizes. All sorts of preferences.

While I was on vacation in Alaska the last week of August I found the perfect mug! It was gorgeous. It fit my hand perfectly. Well, it sparked like fireworks in the microwave but since everything else was perfect I could live without microwaving it. A small amount of sparks, like I have one cup with a gold rim is ok, but this was quite spectacular. Then I spent the last month learning the exact ratio of coffee/tea/milk etc.

And then two days ago I heated up some tea in the microwave in a teapot so I wouldn't microwave the cup and as I poured it into the perfect cup, the top fell off and took out a huge chunk of my perfect cup :( Didn't hurt the cheap tea pot I didn't care about of course.

So first thing was look on line. Couldn't find my cup. Couldn't find other cups the same shape and specifications. I've been going back to my old less-than-satisfactory cups.

Visited the goodwill today and found an adequate cup. Not as good as the last one but better than what I had. The search will continue!

This is my favorite coffee mug! I would chew someones arm off if they took it....lol

I can't put it in the microwave, but it keeps my coffee at the perfect temp until I am done. I know the size is 16 oz. but I am allowed 2 cups of coffee a day and no other caffeine for the day. Which is why I love Diet 7 up, no caffeine.

I know exactly what you mean. I love my Dunoon cup. I bought 4 and now have
only one left. Bought some new ones but they are not made like the old ones. :(

I know exactly what you mean! I searched the internet and could not find one to satisfy me. I was in JoAnn's for the after holiday one and there was the exact sewing related one that I needed. When I last moved, I dropped an item out of a cabinet onto the edge of the cup- big crack. [sigh]. but no leaks after over a year. Keeping my eye open for a replacement when this one gives out.

I hope you find the perfect cup soon!

It makes my day to have a special coffee cup. If it's not in the cabinet ready in the AM, my day is not right. My dear MIL used to have a "nice cup of tea". It tastes better in a china cup.LOL.

I need a mug please.

I too only drink one cup of coffee a day so I want a big one! I use a Missouri Star one, and bought a second one while in Hamilton a bit ago for the 5th wheel.
Not too thick with a good sensible big handle. the rest of the day I'll drink out of anything

I totally understand. When I travel I take my coffee cup with me. I can't stand the paper/foam cups at the free Breakfast buffets in hotels. I've even had people ask me where I got it, thinking it's the hotel's cup.

Oh yes I understand! My cups have specifications - size, shape, shape of handle, etc. I only like some, not others. Great idea to take mine with me.

I have to have a big cup for my coffee!! Having said that, I use a straw to drink everything, if I don't use the straw, I'm wearing my coffee. My DH tells me not to wear a white shirt when we go out to eat because it will end up coffee spotted. LOL

I have a couple "favorite" cups. Some days I feel like one cup, sometimes a different one. Usually, my husband makes the coffee and he sets out a cup for me. I really try to use the one he sets out because I don't want to be rude:). On the other hand, sometimes I just need one of the others. Silly isn't it? But harmless...
