Leather Pony
 

Does anyone have any experience working with a leather pony? I am working with 1 inch hexes on the third round of a rosette. I prefer not to take out the papers at this point. It is getting hard to hold onto the rosette as it is so large. I have been looking at the leather pony on Amazon and the reviews are good for leather work but no one mentions it for working with fabric. Does anyone have any experience?

I've never heard of it either. I'm trying to envision why you would need it.

I'm also in progress on a hexie quilt, and at the moment it's about 24"-26" across at the widest point. I simply fold back the section I'm working on and let it hang in my lap while I sew.

I did a hand pieced traditional tumbler block quilt many moons ago. Used file folders to cut the pieces for templates. Like Peckish, I just folded back the section I was not working on at the time. I did a large baby quilt and had no issues either with putting the pieces into rows or putting the rows together.

I also had no idea what the leather pony was. Thank you QuiltinNan for the site. Not sure how or why you would use or need it? I do it how Pickish describes.

My hexie project is a 30+ inch square right now. I just removed the papers as soon as the hexie has others on all sides. Ever couple rows, I use Best Press and spray and press everything flat. Without papers makes it much easier to hold.

I have never heard of such a thing and also would like to know what it is used for.

Looking at it on Amazon, I can see how this would be cumbersome, but a big help if one cannot grasp a thin object for very long (as I cannot).

That Leather Pony looks like a torture rack from the middle ages to me......just something about it. Don't think I would care to use one!

I would think you could hold one side with the leather pony, but you would have to release it often to turn while sewing.Then re do it.
