C & C thread
 

I have a problem using Coats and Clark thread. It's not the thread but the spool that gives me problems. Whenever I use it my thread gets caught on the little notch for securing the thread. It has happened with every C &C spool. I've even tried smoothing the notch with sand paper. Helps a little. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions for dealing with this ? Or course I now use other brands, but occasionally I need a color that I only have the color I need in C &C thread on hand.

Have you tried turning the spool over? Just a suggestion.

I've had the same problem and frustration you have! And like you, I don't buy it anymore but sometimes need a color and it's all that I have. :)
I've never been able to solve that problem! For years C & C was the only brand I bought so I have some strays here.

I have used a nail file to smooth the edges on spools that give me problems (it happens with other brands too).
A nail file lets you get in there and sand it down. Good luck... it's the little things that slow us down when trying to work on a project.

Yes, I have had that problem too and unfortunately, they have put the small notch in both ends. I would like to find a solution, also even though I rarely use C and C.

Using a spool cap works to keep the thread away from the end of the spool.

C&C thread compared to other quality threads is more expensive per yard. If you really like C&C then of course that is not an issue. The spool of C&C is less expensive but look at the yardage on the spool and compare the price. I am a comparison shopper and have never found C&C thread to be less expensive per yard compared to other quality brands.

Maybe try using a spool net on the thread when sewing. I'm referring to the nets you can get for free from a florist.

you should have a cap of sorts that fits on the spool arm after you place the spool of thread on it. that prevents the thread from getting caught in that slit.

Interesting. No, I've never had that issue, but I do use the spool caps.

I always use the spool caps, (small for smaller spools, large for larger) and even then have had those doggone ends catch in the slot! I've flipped them over, sanded the spool down... Funny thing, I never looked at specifically which brand was causing the issue! Now when I go home I'm going to check. Try to save myself the frustration.
