Scallops

I stay stitched just inside the 1/4 inch binding seam allowance so the bias edges won't stretch. I trimmed the side and bottom scallops. I folded the quilt in half and redrew the scallop side to match the other side. I stay stitched that edge also.

After stay stitching the second side and trimming, I folded the quilt in half, matching the scallops, and marked the last border. I know it won't be perfect after adding the bias binding but it has a better chance of looking good when the quilt is folded. Of course if you plan to have it on a bed all the time, it wouldn't matter if your scallops matched. Now to cut my bias binding and try my hand at sewing it on!

Wow! Those scallops are so beautifully done. I've never tried that, but your description may give me courage to try it on something very small! I'm really impressed!

How did you come up with that technique? Very impressed with the way you think Tartan! Merry Christmas!

I love scalloped edges, your quilt is shaping up to be a beauty!

Thanks for the great method for scallops! One suggestion Tartan: When I attempted to bind scallops, (about 100 times) I saw this tutorial by Marci Baker showing how to "face" it instead! A super answer! Here is the link.

Smart! do you use a ruler to mark the scallops? I have not attempted this yet....trying to get brave enough to cut that wide border!

Very nicely done. What a great idea to fold in half and match the other side. Very creative idea.
