Heat Press
 

I make t shirt quilts for the kids at church and I'm considering buying a heat press to speed up the prep time. For now it would only be used to attach the fusible interfacing. Is that over kill? I think it would be a huge time saver. I prep about 100 t shirts overall. Will it even work? Do they get too hot? If anyone has one that they like, I would love to hear about it.

Look at the Easy Press 2. They come in different sizes.

Wouldn't it be a good idea for a LQS to have one at their store? You could cut all your squares from the T-shirts, then go there, buy the interfacing, and it pressed on in a few minutes. Or have one to rent and take home for a day or two.

Also you can check your local Craig's list. You never know when a cleaner goes out of business and needs to liquidate their inventory, including equipment.

I have a heat press that I originally got to use to put heat transfer vinyl on t-shirts & other things. I have since used it for pressing applique blocks that use fusibles such as heat & bond, and for pressing regular pieced quilt blocks - it works fantastic and gives me the flattest blocks ever. The temperature of a heat press is adjustable and you can also set the length of time of the press and the amount of pressure used. They are really versatile! I have a couple t-shirt quilts in my future and will be using it for them as well. Just be sure not to set it so hot that you melt the designs on the t-shirts.
