Handquilting ideas
1 Attachment(s)
I am making a play/floor quilt for my neice’s soon to arrive baby. Because we share a love of India I bought fabric in India that has red, gold tigers with black stripes walking across it (I am not sure I know how to post/attach photo). That will be my backing
I pieced rows of red and gold hst (finished 4 inch)with a narrow (1 inch) black dotted stripe between each row. My challenge, as always, is what design to quilt. The tigers are about 4 inches apart and each row about 3 inches apart. I only hand quilt but I am pretty fast and I love doing it. All ideas are appreciated and I’m sure will make their way to this or a future quilt. Thank you in advance. |
how about diagonally between the tigers?

Maybe 1/4 " inside the yellow triangles, you can just "travel" to the next one so that you could stitch a whole row without breaking the thread? If you used yellow thread that might make quite a fun design on the beautiful backing fabric as well.

If you don't want to do a straight stitch, I'd think jungle leaves would be a fun look.

You could run a line of green only on the back with the tigers walking on the green line. I would do it before you put the back on.

I hand quilt and I do a lot of straight line quilting. How much quilting do you want to do? I don't always worry about the backing. I would probably do 1/4" around the triangles but I have sometimes put little flowers inside triangles or squares.

I kind of like the idea of the tigers 'walking' on a green line (grass) maybe combined with the diamonds between tigers?

Thank you for the ideas. I quilted tiger paws between the tigers and have the tigers 'walking' a curvy line all in gold. I think I am happy with it. My daughter in law and my dad both gave it their seal of approval.
