Fons & Porter show today?

I watched the show today - #3304 - and missed what they were doing with a blue pen type of thingy - they ran it over the sewed seam, then finger pressed it, then ironed it - what was in the blue pen? My husband thought they said "softener" - I tried to get this episode online but could only see a preview. Does anybody know what was the purpose of this "softener"?

It is a fabric folding pen. They are sold many places, you will just have to google it. The solution and pressing make the seams lie very flat.

Yes, your husband is correct. They did say it was a softener. Here it is on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Clover-Fabric.../dp/B003W0YZS8 I see they are sold out but they have it here
https://stitchandcrafts.com/fabric-folding-pen/ they explain it well, I see the link doesn't work here in this post, so just type the url in your search bar.

sorry but IMHO steam iron accomplishes the same thing...can use a plastic thing or tongue depressor first and then steam...

I watched that video and immediately (of course) opened my iPad to check on it. I’m a real gadget person but not going to buy this. I’ve managed pressing great seams so far very well - just don’t see the usefulness of this one.

I saw that too. Since I don't use a steam iron (seem like everyone I ever bought leaks or sprays or shuts off prematurely or something) I decided to try using a Q-tip dipped in water and dabbed on the seam and press. It works absolutely wonderfully. Just one more penny pinching idea.

Thanks for the tip.

There are mixed reviews on Amazon. I think Oofta has the right idea. I wonder if a small paint brush would work as well.
