Babylock Jazz ll, anyone have one??
 

Hi guys, I havent posted in a long time but this is maybe where I can find my answer. I have a Janome 6600 that I use a lot for quilting and am tired of struggling with the throat area, love the machine and do not want to upgrade and spend a ton of money. So I searched a Babylock Jazz ll and it's a great price point but mechanical and the local dealer won't sell them because of everyone loving the computerized machines, pretty much what she said. I have 4 Vintage Singers, 301,401, and a 403 that I love playing around with, they are mechanical and I do not have a problem sewing with them.
So my question is anyone out there using one. This one has the up down needle which is more important than anything else like 300 special stitches, since I do a lot of ruler work that is not important.

Really could use help, and Thanks in advance. I just don't want to spend a couple of thousand at this time and I can pick up one for $800 includes shipping.

The Babylock Jazz does have 12 in. to the right of the needle, but there's not that much height to the throat space. I think that would affect visibility when quilting.

If you don't need the fancy stitches, have you considered the Juki TL2010Q ? It's a straight stitch mechanical machine, with 9 in. to the right of the needle, but harp height is 6 in. Visibility is great. Very reasonably priced too.

I have used a Juki TL98QE since 2008. It has the 9" x 6" throat space and straight stitch only, needle up/down. Never been to the shop, just keep it oiled and sew. I have the Babylock Jane same as the Juki only Jane has the thread cutter too.

I have a Juki TL2010Q and Love it for quilting! It is straight stitch only, but has a nice big and high throat area. Also has needle down/up and auto thread cutter. I've quilted several big quilts on it, before I got my longarm.

Here's one on Ebay that is going for $799 incl. shipping. That's a great price.

i have a Jazz. Now I am new to quilting but I really like it. has a few different stitches and a button hole maker. the only thing I don't like about it is there is no warning when the bobbin is low.

The jukies are great machines and if you check sites like sewing machines . come are sometimes as low as 599.00

I bought the first version of Baby Lock Jazz. I traded it in for a computerized sewing machine because of the following reasons: it didn't have an automatic up-down needle position. When quilting, the needle should be down so you don't lose your place; too noisy!; too heavy to lift and put on top of any table.
I kept my Janome 1600P which is a powerful straight-stitch only machine. I use it to sew bags and heavy fabric. I had a quilting frame for it, which is great if the design is only 7inches or less. But I use primarily for straight sewing. It's over 10 years old and still hums like new.

I have the Baby Lock Jane. She has lots of throat space for quilting. She's only straight stitch. She also has a needle down at the end option.

I have a Brother PQ1500 that is similar in shape to the Juki and to the Janome 1600P, I think. I like that it has a larger throat space, but it is high vs long. It is a high shank machine and it gives me good visibility. I'm very satisfied with it for piecing and FMQ. It has needle up/down and a thread cutter.
