Quilting

Hi, I've been quilting for just a few years. I need to move to another city for a short while...does anyone rent storage units to do their quilting?

Welcome from western NY and happy quilting :)
no suggestions for you, though

I don't see why you couldn't, make sure you have a couple of electrical outlets and I would do a very thorough scrubbing first.

Some LQS and some chains even do have "Sew Suites" often with a machine, some have a price attached others are free but no storage for your stuff.

I don't have issues with bugs where I live so I store my fabric in cardboard boxes but you never ever want to put cardboard (especially cardboard full of fabric) directly on the concrete. Moisture will wick in and you will get the musty smell. At the very least, put down a couple of 2x4s and rest the boxes on top of that and make sure the back of the boxes aren't touching the walls either. I have a couple of rolling wire storage racks from Costco that my boxes are placed on.

Around where I live several quilt shops have "sit & sew" times for a small fee. I think you have to bring your own machine, but that may vary. I would contact LQS in the city you are moving to.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Would storage units have electrify for lights and your machine?

As long as it is climate controlled and has electricity, I don't know why it wouldn't work. A group in Conroe, TX meets monthly in a large storage unit and have sew days. It is set up classroom style for the owner of the storage complex. Other than not having any windows, it was fun.

Hi & Welcome!

Check the new area for locations to use for sewing or quilting. Perhaps a LQS, guild, library or church would have space available on certain days. It would also be a way to meet other quilters.
