Sewing lesson

My granddaughter is 7 years old and wanted to spend some time with sewing. She practiced running the machine on paper first. She chose the fabrics she wanted to use. Then she went on to make a large 9 patch block that we quilted and made a quilt for her dog, Carl, to sleep on. Her question as she was leaving was "Grandma...when can we sew again?"

Wow, great job! Looks like you will have many happy hours stitching together in the future, lucky you!

The perfect age to begin teaching little ones to sew. My GD, was the same age, last summer, when we started to sew together. Whenever I go out to their house I now bring my sewing machine so we get some girl time together. Her first quilt is sitting here to be worked on next time we are together. Even if it is only practicing she is in love with my sewing machine. A friend of mine made a 'finger guard' for her machine. I need to get a look at it so I can make one. My GD is a bit high strung (aren't all 7-8 yr olds). It is so much fun being a Nana!

Lucky Carl the Dog who has a loving owner to make him custom blankets. Lucky you to have a granddaughter who shares your enthusiasm for sewing and quilting.:D

What a special memory you two share. Her smile and quilt is adorable. Such perfect posture at the machine too.

I miss that! Gabi and I sewed together for several years but now that she is a teenager she doesn’t have the time or inclination. She took a class in school this year (mandatory) which had a brief sewing part and she proudly reported to me she was the only one who could thread a machine. There is hope! She might want to sew again someday.
