1955 or so Elna

The local Sewing machine retailer says my Elna can’t be repaired: they no longer make the part: I think it is the belt from the motor that drives the machine. Any suggestions other than writing to Elna? TIA:wave:

I'm guessing it's a Supermatic? You may have to hunt down parts your self, but these days there are quite a lot of help to be found with these machines. If it's a Supermatic it has a rubber friction wheel behind the hand wheel, it more often than not needs replacing on an old machine. You might be able to sand down the flat spot and get down to less hardened rubber. There are a few posts on 3D printers turning out replacement friction wheels, fitted with O-rings. There are schematics for metal friction wheels if you or someone you know have access to a lathe machine. If it's an Elna 1 (grasshopper) there are drive belts available with a bit of search.

I did find the hard rubber friction wheel on line, so keep looking. I think Sewingmachinepartsonline.com might have what you need.

I think that OlyOma's wheel is different from a lot of friction wheels out there. It is beveled. This is a 39 plastic printed one that uses O-rings. I cropped the picture. It is about 1/2 the size of a coffee creamer.

A lot of sewing machine shops use Brewer Sewing Supply and can get parts for you. I found some part numbers on their website.

Part #722077
Pulley Elna Green Series Motor Friction
Elna Compatible

Note: Pin not included. Hole for pin needs to be enlarged slightly with a drill to prevent housing from cracking when inserting rolled pin.

And...

Part #440152-20
Pulley Elna 58 62 64 68 69 72 74 Motor
Elna Compatible

Friction Wheel
