Double Wedding Ring Quilt
My husband just told me he would love a Double Wedding Ring quilt out of 30’s fabric. I have admired them from afar, but never made one. For those who made this what is a favorite pattern, technique you have used. Do you have favorite templates?
Thank you. |
I have only made one and used the Sharlene (?) Jorgenson templates. I am sure there are lots of different ones, but this one worked for me. Good luck and have fun making this. What a nice thing that your husband asked for it.

Thank you. I will check for her templates. I know that Marti Mitchell also has templates. I have used some of hers and liked them.

I love my Sharlene Jorgenson templates! I have used these to make the 5 out of 6, king size, DWR quilts that I have made. I did one with all 1930's repo's. She is great on getting the maximum benefit for the use of her templates. The others were all scrappy quilts and this is a great way to use up scraps. the 1930 repo quilt was the easiest one to make. as I was able to duplicate some of the pieces with ease. There were enough different sequences that it was not a noticeable chain of pieces.

There's also a paper pieced double wedding ring pattern.
A few years ago a LQS owner was on a tangent of making all things DWR, and they looked quite authentic. For me that would be a less stressful way to get a great looking result! Now I wished I had gotten the pattern at the time. |
I will look into a paper pieced pattern as well as templates. I am sure it will take awhile.

(....so I can have it at the ready for myself!!) |
I used the John Flynn templates. His instructions were very good. I bought the templates quite a while ago, so not sure if they’re still available.

I made one years ago using Cheryl Phillips pattern "Rings That Bind" from Phillips Fiber Arts, you might want to check her book out, the template came with the book when I bought it. This was an easy pattern because you don't have to cut a lot of small pieces.

I made a DWR quilt a year ago using 30's fabrics and used the paper pieced instructions and templates from Bluprint (Craftsy) called "The Classic Double Wedding Ring with Gail Kessler". The paper piecing method made everything go together very accurately. Glad I used this method. Here is a picture of it.
