Creative Grids Stripology Ruler - Question about length of cutting channel
 

So I have a June Tailor 18" Shape Cut Plus. I've enjoyed it but have nicked several channels so am looking to replace it.

I've seen lots of complaints saying that the cutting channels on the Stripology are too short to fully cut a double folded piece of yardage. I saw the ruler today and see that the one inch entry point narrows at 1 inch and the one inch exit point widens at 13 inches. That's 12 inches of blade-accessible cutting space times 4 equals 44 inches. Most fabric is 42 inches wide, maybe 43. Am I missing something?

I don't have any experience with it, but I'm wondering if 44" doesn't give your rotary blade quite enough room to make a complete cut on the end? Maybe the blade bumps the end of the channel rather than completing the rotation?

Mathematically it sounds like it should work, but I can picture the fabric having to be positioned perfectly at the bottom of the ruler in order to give your blade the full 44". Again, no experience, just surmising.

12 times 4 is 48, not 44. Does that make it work?

And I was an accountant. Oh dear! Well that makes my argument even more that one can cut a double folded piece. Thanks for the reply. Zozee, the blade should be fine in the wide entrance and exit. Just wondering why there were complaints. Thanks!

I have several June Tailor rulers as well as the Stripology ruler are referring to - never had a problem with any of them. I think there is a longer Stripology ruler (18” - I think). Good investment in my opinion.

I find that my stripology works best when I cut off the salvages before I fold it in half to use the ruler. If I don't, I sometimes have problems with not cutting all the way to the end of the fabric.

I have the large Stripology ruler and wish it was just one inch wider. I sometimes don't get a complete cut across WOF. Would help to cut off the selvage edges first but so far I haven't done that. I do find that the grooves are very kind to the rotary blade. Haven't had any problem with nicks.

Cathy, Stripology makes 2 that I know of and I bought the wrong one (of course!) Mine is the wider one. I still love it though but I wish I had gotten the other one.
I like it better than the June Tailor- it's sturdier.

My favorite is the Stripology Squared ruler. It's about an inch or so taller than the Stripology, and cuts up to 12.5", so cuts up to 5 2.5" strips at a time. I had the June Taylor ones and gave them away - IMO the Stripologies are sturdier.

When using the Stripology ruler, your table must be perfectly flat (no warping)
and your blade sharp.
