Minky or cuddle

I have used Minky or cuddle for backing quilts and love it however, I have used 80/20 batting and the combo makes a really heavy quilt. I was wondering if anyone skips the batting. I was at Costco yesterday and they had a 92 x 112 cuddle or Minky throw for $17. I plan to use this as it is cheaper than buying by the yard. Of course colors are limited but if you can use the colors they have I think it is a good deal. Thanks for your thoughts.

Next quilt I make with Minky or fleece, I'm skipping the batting. I plan on pinning it into submission.

Thanks, I will check it out next time I'm there!

When I use minky as a backing, I do not use batting. Minky is heavy and warm enough to give the batting effect.

I used an inexpensive minkie blanket that our daughter gave my mom, for a crib blanket. My mom passed away shortly after being the recipient, and I was making our grandson a quilt and asked if she would like it backed with the blanket, rather than yardage. She loved it for the sentimental reasons and baby loved it for the cuddle factor!

I use Shannon Cuddle on all my baby quilts along with 80/20 batting. I love the weight of the quilts. I don't find them heavy at all. Of course, I do live in Minnesota. A word of caution... If you use a bright color backing without batting, the backing may show through any white in your quilt. You may also find that the fibers from the backing pull through your quilting stitches more readily leaving little tufts of backing on the front of your quilt.
