A different approach

Great idea! Here in Minnesota we went to a "hands free for driving" law on 9/1, and it seems like most drivers that I see didn't get the memo!! I'm thinking of getting my own sign that says "hang up and drive"! (I'd only use it if I were a passenger!)

While I get the idea that their intent is to stop distracted driving , were they stopping and ticketing those who took their picture at the corner????
|
While waiting at a stop sign the other day, hubby and I almost were hit by a woman turning onto the road we were on and was so close to hitting us - she was yacking on the phone, turning one handed and barely made the turn. Geez, what don't these people get about hands free?

Very good idea.

Two years ago we were stopped on the highway because of an accident and rear ended by a woman who was on her phone. She was cited for hitting us and distracted driving. |
Ironic. Reading a sign that someone is holding is very distracting while you are driving. What’s the difference between reading a message on a sign or reading a text? They both take your eyes off the road for about the same amount of time.

Chasing Hawk, very sorry about the damage you sustained from being hit by a distracted driver.

Laws don't stop the offense. All they do is provide a way for government to get more money.
I agree about the signs on the road too. |
Lol! I love that! I spend a lot of my driving time watching other drivers to see who is paying attention and who is playing with their cell phone. I disagree that reading a sign and reading a text take the same amount of time. Reading a sign at eye level next to the road take a second and your eyes are still at road level. You can see a lot with your peripheral vision. Reading a text means that your eyes are away from the road. It can be longer and it's totally unnecessary. If you can't wait the time it takes you to get to your destination or get off the road, you have serious phone issues and might want to consider that.
