Singer 50s featherweight 3-110 FMQ FMQ applique with darning foot?

This is the machine I learned how to sew on. I’m thinking of taking it camping to make boom blocks. Can I put a darning foot on it and use it to do FMQ applique? I know it doesn’t zig zag.

Other Featherweight 221 fans might think different but I was able to make a few of my Boom Blocks using my featherweight. I haven't had mine all that long yet but find that the only thing I cannot do is zig zag.

I use my Featherweight quite a bit. I'm not sure how a darning foot would help, as I'm not sure what the Boom Block looks like. I would just do a very narrow straight stitch as close as possible to the edge. Seems a darning foot wold be jumping too much for any accuracy at all.

I have a spring like darning foot I use on my treadle so no reason you couldn't use one on your FW. I think the Boom is something ongoing here? Do some samples and send images to the coordinator first, see if they pass muster?

O.K. so I'm not with the program I guess, just what are BOOM Blocks?

I would like to know what a boom block is also?

“Boom” is short for boomerang as in a boomerang swap. We just completed the 23rd boom swap here on the board. It’s a swap where 20 quilters send out fat 1/8ths of their fabric to each other and make blocks for each other. Janice is the fearless leader and does an outstanding job of coordinating. You can find the most recent swap thread under the swap section of the board. I just got my boom quilt back from the LA today so will post a picture when hubby gets home so you can all see what amazingly talented ladies the boomers are...
