Elderberry Syrup

I'm making a batch this weekend. I need to find my honey guy at the Farmer's market to get some honey.
Anyone else make it? It's supposed to be really good for you in the winter to ward off things.
My recipe came straight from Wellness Mama- Katie Wells.

I am not making it this year, but it is meant to have lots of beneficial effects. Good luck finding some honey.

We buy from a bee guy locally. His honeys are fantastic.

SusieQOH ... totally curious about this in my freezer, so would you please share your recipe?
And the health merits of which you speak? Please?

I have some elderberries in the freezer .... and this might be how I would use them.
Thanks!

When we had the very bad flu epidemic a few years back, my grandchildren were too young for the commercial flu vaccine that is now recommended for everyone.( I am not one to take lots of drugs or get unnecessary (in my opinion) vaccines. The kids lived in San Antonio at the time. Many of the drug stores were sold out of elderberry syrup. My daughter had to wait until her pharmacy got a new shipment because the shelves were empty. It is a natural remedy used to prevent the flu and shorten the time and lighten the symptoms of the flu if ones contracts the flu instead of supporting the big drug companies and putting lots of chemicals into your body.

I posted a while back about my elderberry trees going off and asked for recipes, to which everyone kindly obliged. Unfortunately, those lovely birds that I so enjoy watching every morning ate every single berry before I had a chance to harvest them. So, I have have no experience with them yet. :(

I do know that some experts say that you need to make the syrup with the right kind of elderberries...the European ones, not the American ones. (Black Elderberries, vs. Red Elderberries perhaps?) Although, I have friends that make Black Elderberry syrup all the time with no ill effects. You can also buy it ready-made, often under the name "Sambucus nigra."

Got me even more interested when I saw maple syrup as an option.

Til this, I've never heard of Elderberry Syrup for its health benefits.

I have a recipe for Elederberry Ketchup. You can google it if you like. There is no sugar in it. It is made with shallots. When I first tasted it, I thought, "He wasted all these good elderberries to make " The next time I used it, I realized how good it really is, and treasured every last drop. It is quite thick.
