Have you ever made a quilt that only you could love?
1 Attachment(s)
I just started making a quilt that I am pretty sure only I could love, much less like. Have any of you ever done that? I have shown my progress to a few quilters and gotten very lukewarm responses, like "Isn't that interesting..."
It doesn't bother me. I am enjoying making this quilt and I think I will love it. The pattern is Nebula by Eileen Wright. It is a Bargello. Mine will be 20 shades of purple, and I think it is going to end up looking like a really weird purple UFO (as in alien spacecraft not un-finished project) in an alien purple sky. So far I have the middle section roughly pinned to my design wall, but here is what it looks like. I know it is weird. I love purple and have never claimed to be a traditional quilter. :) And the quilt is for me, so I don't need to worry about pleasing anyone. :) But my question is really what I asked. Have you ever made a quilt that only you could love? Dina |
Honestly, I love it!

What's not to like about that?
But yes -- a lot of the quilts I make I consider rather taste specific :p Some scrap quilts are harder to accept than others, even though I mostly work in scraps I feel they can be chaotic which is not always the intent. This one started out as "just a project/probably for donation" but I got rather attached to it... https://www.quiltingboard.com/quilti...ml#post8320378 Some of the fabrics in that top are just so awful! |
Not wierd at all. It will be very pretty when done. Can't wait to see it!

I love your pretty purple bargello! It's much more than 'interesting'!
I have a quilt on the wall by my bed. It's just a mass of 2-fabric 16 patches (all different) but it really spoke to me. When I showed it at group, nobody seemed to love it. It's all muted civil-war type colors. So I hung it by my bed because I just wasn't ready to give it away yet. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent just looking up at it. I love it, if no one else does. |
Yes! My guild is doing a mystery quilt. One person saw what I'd produced so far and she just had a conniption over it. She likes everything in squares and rows. This is a sampler quilt. So I've put it away and am not sure I'd ever like it myself. I think the finished bits will be repurposed into smaller projects.

As I reread what I wrote originally, I realized that my sister said the quilt was going to be beautiful. So I guess not everyone was unenthused about it. :)

It’s totally purple... and i’m totally in love with it! I think you might just have shown it to the wrong people before you showed it to us!!! 😊

That’s going to be spectacular! What’s not to love, the best thing about quilting is it’s a labor of love and at the end of the day it’s about you and doing what makes you happy. I really love this and can’t wait to see it when it’s all done, please keep us posted on your progress.
