curved crosshatching
I really love the look of curved crosshatching. I've done a little but without the special ruler and was less than happy with the results. Is there a way to do it successfully without the ruler? Thank you in advance.

Maybe you could try one of the sewing machine feet with an adjustable guide? Mark and sew your first line, then set the guide to whatever distance apart you want the lines. Hopefully someone else knows of some cool way to do this!

Since the curve is gentle, you could mark it and use your walking foot. The main drawback of using your walking foot instead of a ruler and ruler foot is....you will need to rotate the quilt to go in the second direction.

Do you have any kind of stitch options on your machine? Sometimes you can take a stitch you like and play with the width and length and get a nice curved crosshatch that pleases you. Good luck to you.

The only way would be to mark it like Tartan suggested. I haven't delved into ruler work either. I thought about it as my Christmas present to myself. I have used round lids as marking templates before, it helps if they are see thru to get accurate distances.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the special ruler." Any curved ruler can be used. Of course you need a bigger curve for bigger areas, smaller curve for smaller areas.

Before I had the ruler, I used lids..canning jar rings for smaller areas, coffee can lids for the big ones..just mark the sides of the lids where you want them to line up and then use them as a guide to mark your quilt.

Can you cut a template out of a plastic "something"?

Perhaps there is a stencil of curved cross hatching.
